Janz Premium Cuvée
A lovely aperitif style, with lifted honeysuckle and citrus from the Chardonnay and delicate strawberry Pinot characters. Tirage age of this Jansz Premium Cuvée adds nutty complexity and creamy texture.

Wolf Blass Chardonnay
The Eaglehawk has a bouquet of lifted tropical notes, peach characters and subtle oak. The palate is medium weight with rich full fruit and a backbone of supporting oak and crisp acidity.

Petaluma Chardonnay
The Petaluma has a complex array of melon fig and cashew aromas followed by a typically elegant and subtle palate with beautifully integrated oak.

The masked tasting of these wines saw the members and guests equally divided on which one they preferred and thought more expensive. Estimations ran from $16 a bottle for the Eaglehawk to $20 for the Petaluma. An interesting example of how removal of prejudice affects our appreciation of wine.

Morris Cinsault (Blue Imperial)
Cinsaut has been grown by Morris’s at Rutherglen since the 1920’s. It has ripe berry and spicy flavours with subtle oak influence.

Brian Barry Jud’s Hill Shiraz
Brian Barry has a long history in the wine industry, having graduated in 1948. Jud’s Hill is named for his son, Judson. It displays characters of cherry, blackberry and cassis. Like the Cinsaut it has aged beautifully since 2008 and both are a perfect match for the lamb.

Galway Pipe Grand Tawny Port
Named after Sir Henry Galway, Governor of South Australia from 1914-1920. He visited Yalumba Winery each year to select his pipe of port (equivalent to about 700 bottles) for use at Government House. The brand name was sold to Mildara some years ago and is now held by Beresford Wines at Langhorne Creek. The wine remains true to the rich character of distinct tawny aromas of raisins, dried fruit, nuts and dusty oak. It has a long, dry finish and a perfect accompaniment to the cheese selection.
